Assistant Chef Job Description
Assistant Chef (also called Sous Chef, Commis Chef, or Kitchen Assistant depending on the kitchen hierarchy) supports the head chef in daily kitchen operations.
- Main ResponsibilitiesAssist in food preparation and cooking
- Prepare ingredients (cutting, chopping, marinating, measuring)
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen
- Ensure food quality and presentation standards
- Help manage kitchen inventory and stock rotation
- Follow recipes and portion control guidelines
- Support senior chefs during busy service hours
- Monitor food storage and safety standards
- Operate kitchen equipment safely
- Assist in menu preparation and special dishes
