Manager, Solution Engineering – Pune, India

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead highly productive technical team. This role is ideal for a strong technical leader with a passion for building high-performing teams, driving engineering excellence, and delivering scalable, high-quality software solutions. You will work closely with Product, Operations, and cross-functional stakeholders to define strategy and ensure successful execution.

Role Responsibilities  

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and technically mentor engineering teams across India
  • Build and nurture a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Drive performance management, coaching, and career development for engineers and team leads

Delivery & Execution

  • Own end-to-end delivery of complex software initiatives with a focus on quality and timeliness
  • Collaborate with Product Management to define scope, prioritize roadmaps, and balance innovation with execution
  • Partner with Operations to ensure smooth releases, system uptime, compliance, and service reliability
  • Establish scalable engineering processes, metrics, and best practices
  • Effectively communicate risks, milestones, and technical decisions to stakeholders and leadership

Technical Leadership

  • Provide architectural and technical guidance for systems involving:
    • Java, Spring Boot
    • RESTful APIs and microservices
    • Cloud platforms (preferably AWS)
    • Databases (PostgreSQL, NoSQL)
    • Kafka
  • Champion DevOps maturity including CI/CD, automation, observability, and cloud-native architecture
  • Drive adoption of AI tools to enhance engineering productivity and code quality
  • Advocate for engineering excellence, scalability, and maintainability
  • Use AI to accelerate modernization, testing, documentation, observability, and engineering productivity.

Role Requirements  

  • 11+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4+ years in people management
  • Strong technical expertise in:
    • Java, Spring Boot
    • API development and microservices
    • AWS or similar cloud platforms
    • Databases such as PostgreSQL or NoSQL
    • Kafka
  • Hands-on experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud deployments
  • Strong collaboration experience with Product and Operations teams
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and decision-making skills
  • Hands-on experience using AI coding agents to build or accelerate end-to-end software delivery.
  • Ability to write clear prompts, iterate with AI tools, and validate outputs before production use.
  • Review AI-generated code and designs against Western Union standards for security, privacy, compliance, resilience, reliability, and quality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience scaling engineering teams during high-growth phases
  • Experience in writing scalable code using Java, Rest APIs, Spring Boot and Kafka
  • Exposure with architectural patterns such as microservices, APIs, databases, event-driven systems, queues, and workflow automation.
  • Proven track record leading transformation initiatives (DevOps adoption, cloud migration, process optimization)
  • Demonstrated success in improving code quality and developer productivity using writing efficient prompt using AI tools
