Position: Senior Director – Technology Resiliency Enablement Office (TREO), APAC

Role Description

Northern Trust is seeking an experienced Senior Director – Technology Resiliency Enablement Office (TREO), APAC to provide executive leadership and regional accountability for technology resiliency across the Asia Pacific region. This role is responsible for defining and executing the APAC resiliency strategy, ensuring alignment with global frameworks while delivering consistent, scalable, and regulator-ready outcomes across infrastructure, platforms, applications, cloud/hybrid services, operations, and third-party dependencies. The role will also drive next-generation cyber recovery capabilities—including Cyber Vault Recovery, point-in-time recovery, air-gapped/immutable backup—and accelerate disaster recovery automation across on-premises and cloud environments.
The Senior Director serves as the single accountable executive for APAC technology resilience, acting as a strategic partner to APAC technology and business leadership and a peer to global resilience leaders. The role ensures technology resilience is embedded into design, operations, and governance, strengthening operational stability, regulatory confidence, and business continuity across the region.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Alignment
•    Define and execute the APAC technology resilience strategy and multi year roadmap, aligned with global TREO frameworks and enterprise risk appetite.
•    Drive consistency and standardization of resilience practices across APAC while accounting for regional regulatory and operating requirements.
•    Serve as the primary APAC counterpart to the US Practice Lead and global resilience leadership, influencing enterprise wide resilience strategy through regional insight and execution feedback.
Technology & Operational Resilience
•    Provide executive oversight for disaster recovery, business continuity, cyber resilience, and operational resilience programs across APAC technology operations.
•    Partner with infrastructure, cloud, platform, and application leaders to ensure resilience is embedded into architecture and service design.
•    Sponsor and govern resilience testing, failover exercises, and scenario simulations to validate recovery capabilities and reduce systemic risk.
•    Establish and lead a regional Cyber Vault Recovery program, including isolation design, privileged access controls, malware scanning, clean-room recovery procedures, and executive-level readiness exercises.
•    Define and govern recovery architecture patterns for point-in-time recovery (PITR) across databases, storage, and critical platforms; set regional standards for recovery objectives, recovery sequencing, and validation.
•    Drive adoption of air-gapped and immutable backup capabilities to protect crown-jewel systems from ransomware and destructive attacks; ensure secure retention, encryption, and regular restore verification.
•    Lead disaster recovery automation by standardizing runbooks, infrastructure-as-code patterns, orchestration tooling, and automated testing to improve recovery speed, repeatability, and auditability.
•    Sponsor and drive Rubrik implementation and operating model standardization across on-premises and cloud environments, including policy-as-code, data classification alignment, retention/immutability policies, and self-service restore workflows.

Regulatory & Compliance Governance
•    Interpret and implement APAC specific regulatory requirements related to operational and technology resilience (e.g., MAS, HKMA, APRA).
•    Ensure adherence to global and local compliance frameworks, maintaining defensible evidence and audit ready documentation.
•    Represent APAC technology resilience in regulatory interactions, audits, and supervisory reviews, partnering closely with Risk, Audit, and Compliance teams.

Stakeholder Engagement & Crisis Management
•    Act as the APAC executive lead for major technology incidents and crises, providing command leadership, escalation management, and executive communications.
•    Build strong relationships with senior business and technology stakeholders to ensure resilience objectives are integrated into investment and operating decisions.
Continuous Improvement & Maturity Management
•    Define and oversee resilience maturity models, KPIs, and executive reporting across APAC technology estates.
•    Identify and drive opportunities for automation and AI-enabled resilience to improve recovery outcomes and operational efficiency, including automated DR runbooks, continuous recovery testing, and standardized evidence collection for audits and regulatory reviews.
•    Lead capability building initiatives to embed a strong culture of resilience across technology and business teams.

Qualifications & Experience
•    15+ years of experience in technology resilience, business continuity, operational risk, or large scale technology operations within a global financial services or technology organization.
•    Demonstrated senior leadership experience with accountability for multi country, multi domain resilience programs.
•    Strong understanding of APAC regulatory expectations related to operational and technology resilience.
•    Deep expertise in cloud and hybrid resiliency, cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 22301), IT service continuity management, and modern data protection approaches such as cyber recovery vaults, immutable/air-gapped backups, and point-in-time recovery.
•    Hands-on leadership experience delivering enterprise backup and recovery transformations (e.g., Rubrik or equivalent), spanning on-prem and cloud, including policy standardization, platform onboarding, operational readiness, and measurable improvement in restore success rates.
•    Proven ability to lead through influence, manage crisis situations, and engage effectively with regulators and senior executives.
•    Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and executive leadership skills.
