Job Description
Role Title: Brand Development Manager – Amazon Private Labels
Function: E-commerce / Brand Building / Category Expansion
Reporting To: Founder / Head of E-commerce
Location: Flexible (with strong coordination across sourcing, design, and performance teams)
Role MandateOwn the end-to-end creation, launch, and scaling of Amazon-first private label brands across identified niches. This is a 0→1→10 role: from product ideation and validation to brand positioning, listing optimization, performance marketing, and portfolio expansion.
The role is accountable for building defensible, scalable, and profitable brands, not just launching SKUs.
- Key Responsibilities1. Market & Opportunity IdentificationIdentify high-potential niches using:
- Demand-supply gap analysis
- Keyword trends, BSR movements, review mining
- Competitive benchmarking (pricing, positioning, gaps)
- Validate product ideas using:
- Unit economics (landed cost, fees, margins)
- Review sentiment analysis (pain points → product improvements)
- Build a pipeline of launch-ready product concepts
- 2. Product Development & SourcingTranslate insights into product specs and differentiation strategy
- Work with suppliers (India/China/others) on:
- Sampling, iteration, and quality benchmarks
- Packaging and branding integration
- Ensure:
- Cost optimization without compromising perceived value
- Compliance (category-specific certifications, labeling)
- 3. Brand Strategy & PositioningDefine:
- Brand identity (target customer, value proposition, tone)
- Product positioning vs competitors
- Build:
- Naming, packaging concepts, visual identity
- Long-term brand narrative (not just SKU-level selling)
- 4. Amazon Listing & Conversion OptimizationOwn listing creation:
- Keyword-rich titles, bullet points, descriptions
- A+ Content / Brand Store design
- Drive conversion through:
- Visual storytelling (images, infographics, videos)
- Review acquisition strategy (compliant)
- Continuously optimize listings based on:
- CTR, CVR, session %, keyword rank
- 5. Launch & Growth ExecutionPlan and execute product launches:
- PPC strategy (auto + manual campaigns)
- Keyword ranking roadmap
- Initial traction (offers, coupons, external traffic if needed)
- Scale winning SKUs via:
- Ad optimization (ACOS/TACOS control)
- Organic ranking improvements
- Pricing and inventory strategies
- 6. P&L OwnershipOwn unit economics at SKU and brand level:
- Contribution margin
- Advertising efficiency
- Inventory turns and cash cycles
- Make decisions on:
- Scale / kill / iterate products
- Portfolio expansion within niche
- 7. Portfolio Expansion & Brand BuildingExpand from hero SKUs → full product range
- Build category authority brands, not fragmented listings
- Identify cross-sell / upsell opportunities
- Key Deliverables / KPIsNumber of successful product launches per quarter
- Time from idea → launch
- First 90-day revenue per SKU
- Contribution margin (%)
- TACOS / ACOS targets
- Keyword ranking (Top 10 / Top 3 for primary terms)
- Review rating (≥4.2 sustained)
- Brand-level revenue and growth rate
- Required SkillsetCore CompetenciesDeep understanding of Amazon marketplace mechanics
- Strong analytical capability (data-driven decisions)
- Product intuition: ability to identify what sells and why
- Basic financial modeling (unit economics, margin structures)
- Functional SkillsKeyword research tools (Helium 10, Jungle Scout, etc.)
- Amazon Ads (PPC campaign structuring & optimization)
- Listing optimization (SEO + conversion)
- Supplier negotiation and product development
- Basic branding and consumer psychology
- Experience Requirements3–7 years in:
- Amazon private label / marketplace business OR
- E-commerce category management / D2C brand building
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Launching and scaling products on Amazon
- Managing P&L or revenue targets
