Job Description – Fabrication Fitter

Position: Fabrication Fitter

Key Responsibilities:

Read and interpret engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, and work instructions.

Mark, measure, cut, fit, and assemble metal components as per specifications.

Perform fitting, alignment, and assembly of fabricated structures and equipment.

Use hand tools, power tools, grinders, drilling machines, and measuring instruments effectively.

Prepare components for welding and ensure proper fit-up before welding activities.

Inspect fabricated parts for dimensional accuracy and quality compliance.

Carry out rework and corrections as required to meet quality standards.

Coordinate with welders, supervisors, and quality personnel to ensure smooth production flow.

Maintain production records and report daily work progress.

Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Ensure proper housekeeping and cleanliness in the work area.

Assist in material handling and movement of fabricated parts within the shop floor.

Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce wastage.

Skills Required:

Ability to read fabrication and engineering drawings.

Knowledge of fabrication processes, tools, and equipment.

Proficiency in using measuring instruments such as measuring tape, Vernier caliper, spirit level, and try square.

Good understanding of fit-up, alignment, and assembly techniques.

Basic knowledge of welding processes and fabrication standards.

Qualification:

ITI Fitter / Fabricator / Welder or equivalent technical qualification.

1–5 years of experience in fabrication and fitting activities preferred.

Preferred Competencies:

Knowledge of structural fabrication, sheet metal fabrication, and industrial equipment assembly.

Strong attention to quality and safety.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Commitment to achieving production targets and maintaining workmanship standards.
