Job Description
Field Engineer – 3D Scanning, Measurements & Fitment Symbionic | Korattur, Chennai | Full-time, On-site | Target Start: Within 2 weeks Department: Clinical Engineering
ABOUT SYMBIONIC
Symbionic is a clinical-stage prosthetics company building assistive technology that restores independence and dignity to upper-limb amputees. Our work sits at the intersection of engineering, healthcare, and deeply human impact. We are a small, mission-driven team, and every role we hire reflects that mission directly. About the Role We are looking for a Field Engineer who is the face of Symbionic at the patient level. Your primary job is to go where patients are — clinics, hospitals, community camps — and carry out 3D scans, precise body measurements, and fitment tests for prosthetic and orthotic devices. This is not a desk job. The core of your work happens in the field, directly with patients. You will be the critical link between the patient and our production team — the accuracy of your scans and measurements is what makes the difference between a device that fits and one that doesn't. On occasion, you may also support our R&D team with CAD modelling and prototyping when needed.
WHAT WILL YOU DO
Field Visits & Patient Interaction
- Travel to patient camps, hospitals, rehabilitation centres, and clinical sites for assessments.
- Coordinate with patients and caregivers to ensure a smooth, comfortable experience during visits.
- Manage patient scheduling, flow, and documentation at each field location.
3D Scanning
- Operate 3D scanning equipment to capture accurate geometry of residual limbs and body parts.
- Ensure correct patient positioning for precise, usable scan outputs.
- Handle, maintain, and transport scanning equipment responsibly across locations.
Measurements & Assessment
- Perform precise clinical measurements — limb lengths, circumferences, and residual limb profiles.
- Record and maintain detailed patient measurement data as per P&O clinical protocols.
- Flag any observations or concerns to the P&O team for clinical review.
Fitment Testing
- Conduct fitment trials on fabricated prosthetic and orthotic devices before patient delivery.
- Identify fit issues and clearly communicate required adjustments to the production team.
- Document fitment outcomes, patient feedback, and any on-the-spot modifications.
- Ensure all devices pass quality and safety checks before handover to the patient.
Coordination
- Coordinate with the P&O clinical team on patient requirements and device specifications.
- Work closely with the Production team for timely device fabrication based on your field data.
- Report patient updates, field observations, and escalations to Sunil, Head of Operations & Production.
R&D & CAD Support (As Required)
- Support the R&D team with CAD modelling tasks for device design and modifications when needed.
- Assist in prototyping and testing of new prosthetic and orthotic solutions.
- Contribute to design iterations based on real-world fitment learnings from the field.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Experience
- 0 to 2 years of experience in a field, clinical support, or engineering role.
- Any hands-on experience with scanning equipment, measurement tools, or assistive devices is a strong plus.
Technical Skills
- Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Prosthetics & Orthotics, or a related engineering field.
- Basic familiarity with CAD tools (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar) is an added advantage.
- Comfortable with data entry, documentation, and basic reporting.
Soft Skills & Approach
- Field-Ready: Willing to travel regularly and work at different locations including remote camps.
- Detail-Oriented: High accuracy in measurements and documentation — small errors have real patient impact.
- People-First: Able to put patients at ease and handle sensitive interactions with empathy and professionalism.
- Team Player: Able to coordinate across clinical, production, and engineering teams effectively.
- Adaptable: Comfortable working in varying conditions and adjusting to changing camp schedules.
WHAT WE OFFER
- A front-row seat to a company doing genuinely meaningful work in prosthetics and assistive technology.
- Direct impact on patient lives — your field work is what makes every device possible.
- Hands-on training in 3D scanning, clinical measurement techniques, and P&O workflows.
- Exposure to R&D, CAD modeling, and product development as you grow in the role.
- Compensation: ₹15,000 – ₹25,000 / month (based on experience and skills).
WORKING HOURS & CONDITION
- Standard hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Monday to Saturday.
- Camp days may extend beyond standard hours depending on location and patient volume.
- If required to work on a leave or holiday due to a camp, compensatory off will be granted on an alternate day.
- Regular outstation and local travel is an essential part of this role.
