Job Description:

The Kitchen Helper is an essential support role within the food and beverage service industry, responsible for assisting kitchen staff with various tasks to ensure smooth and efficient food preparation and service. This position involves performing a variety of duties, including food preparation, cleaning, and maintaining a safe and organized kitchen environment. The Kitchen Helper plays a crucial part in supporting the kitchen team, contributing to the quality and speed of service.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Food Preparation:

• Assist chefs and kitchen staff in preparing ingredients for meals, including washing, peeling, chopping, and cutting vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients.
• Help with portioning food items for cooking, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
• Prepare and arrange items for cooking or plating, following kitchen staff instructions.

1. Kitchen Organization and Cleaning:

• Keep the kitchen area clean and organized by regularly cleaning surfaces, utensils, cutting boards, and kitchen equipment.
• Clean and sanitize kitchen tools and utensils, ensuring hygiene standards are maintained.
• Assist in maintaining proper storage of food, ensuring ingredients are stored correctly and safely to prevent contamination.
• Clean kitchen floors, counters, and equipment regularly to maintain cleanliness and order.

1. Dishwashing and Utensil Management:

• Wash dishes, utensils, glassware, and cooking equipment in compliance with hygiene and safety standards.
• Ensure that all dishware and kitchen tools are thoroughly cleaned and returned to the appropriate storage areas.
• Maintain a clean and efficient dishwashing area, disposing of waste appropriately.

1. Assist with Stocking and Inventory:

• Help in receiving deliveries and organizing food and supply stock in the kitchen.
• Monitor inventory levels of food, cleaning supplies, and kitchen tools, and report low stock to the kitchen supervisor.
• Ensure that the kitchen area is always stocked with the necessary items for daily operations.

1. Support for Cooking and Service:

• Assist with the cooking process by following instructions from chefs and kitchen staff.
• Help plate and garnish food as directed, ensuring presentation standards are met.
• Transport food items from the kitchen to the service area, assisting servers and other staff as needed.

1. Health and Safety Compliance:

• Follow food safety and sanitation guidelines to maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
• Ensure all food preparation areas are sanitized to prevent cross-contamination.
• Adhere to safety protocols when using kitchen equipment, such as knives, ovens, and fryers.

1. Teamwork and Communication:

• Work collaboratively with kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, and other kitchen helpers, to maintain an efficient kitchen operation.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to ensure all tasks are completed in a timely and organized manner.
• Support kitchen staff during peak service hours to ensure food is prepared and delivered quickly.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment is preferred but not required.
• Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
• Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
