Role Description
- Mainframe Technology Operations is looking for a Technology Operations Specialist to support day-to-day service delivery, operational stability, and risk management for the IBM Z (z/OS) platform. You will work closely with infrastructure teams, applications teams, and Information Security teams to ensure resilient batch and online processing, strong access controls, and audit-ready operational documentation.
- All these platforms and infrastructure components are vendor-managed, the role also includes service integration and governance activities such as SLA management, escalation, change coordination, and service review. The role focuses on monitoring, incident/problem/change coordination, operational environment execution and improvement, and effective communications skills to stakeholders to identify the issues, technology refresh activities in coordination with vendors to maintain a stable, secure, and compliant production environment.
- In this role, you will also serve as the TISO for mainframe infrastructure NARs, taking full accountability for their lifecycle, compliance, and audit readiness. Your leadership as the TISO to ensure the critical assets (NARs) meet all regulatory requirements while aligning technical deployments, patch management governance with the patch management vendor management team to mitigate risk to the mainframe environment.
- In addition, you will also take on the governance role with complete understanding of HPE Tandem hardware and Tandem NonStop Guardian OS with related components like Security Safeguard, online, database components like Pathway, SQL, File transfers like FTP, SSH and Connect Direct, Languages Cobol, Java, C & C++ and applying the same mainframe skills and responsibilities outlined below. Applying all the mainframe governance, Kyndryl vendor management skills and Application support for the critical applications running on the Tandem platform. Take responsibilities of audit, compliance and DB tools integration to the Tandem platform.

Your key responsibilities
- Complete understanding of the Mainframe platform, hardware, software, security, subsystems like Network (TCP/SNA), File transfer protocols, CICS, DB2, IMS, TSO, Batch, JCL and REXX skills, Automation, Assembler code understanding.
- Lead the Audit & Regulatory Support in TISO role reviewing, supporting and approving all the mainframe assets compliance related work bench items in dbUnity, RACER/dbGRC, Group Audit related CAF findings closure, preparation of all documentation and evidence for internal and external software audits to ensure zero non-compliance findings.
- Coordinating and governing the HPE Tandem NonStop Guardian environment with associated online, database environments, critical applications with Vendor supported delivery.
- Coordinate all the Audits as point of contact for EY, GA ensuring all internal controls meet the audit findings, SOX requirements and provide necessary documentation for quarterly and yearly reviews.
- Provide L3 operational support for IBM z/OS production environments, including monitoring, event triage, and service restoration within agreed SLAs.
- Perform initial diagnostics for incidents at the system level and application level including connectivity issues, collect logs/evidence, drive root-cause analysis with resolver groups, and track remediation through to closure.
- Participate in change and release processes for mainframe components and applications with the vendor-managed mainframe database service to ensure operational readiness, rollback plans, and post-implementation validation
- Manage and govern the vendor providing mainframe database services, including SLA tracking, incident and problem escalation, change coordination, service reviews, and ensuring timely delivery of agreed actions and audit evidence
- Support security/compliance activities on the platform by coordinating access reviews and privileged access processes (e.g., Top Secret/RACF), maintaining audit evidence, and responding to control/audit/regulatory requests in a timely manner
Your skills and experience
- Relevant experience in Mainframe (IBM z/OS platform and the associated subsystems like TSO, CICS, DB2, IMS, Security, Network, File transfer protocols, Scheduling), Technology Operations and Mainframe Environment Support, including incident, problem, change, and service reporting in a 24x7 business-critical environment.
- Working knowledge of other operating platforms like Unix, Tandem NonStop Guardian, TCP/IP Networking, Firewalls etc.,
Working knowledge of encryption at the hardware level (cryptography, Disk) and software level data in transit (File transfers), data at rest like DB2, IMS and VSAM concepts and tooling.
- Understanding online and database subsystems (e.g., CICS, IMS, DB2) and the ability to partner effectively with application teams and system programmers during incidents and changes.
- Experience with IT service management practices (ITIL) and ticketing tools; proven ability to run incident bridges, manage priorities, communicate clearly, and coordinate escalations with internal resolver groups and external vendors.
- Experience with workload scheduling like OPC/TWS, automation tools like NetView and monitoring like Omegamon and comfort with operational reporting/analysis with desktop MS office.
- Working knowledge of mainframe security and access controls (RACF, Top Secret) and experience supporting audits, evidence collection, and control attestation. Understanding of MFA (multi factor authentication in mainframe environment with AD, RADIUS, RSA etc.,
- Understanding the TISO role in supporting Infrastructure NARs and the mainframe platform, following CSO guidelines, implementing secured Production environment with MFA and CyberArk toolset, Security event monitoring with Splunk and other CSO manged tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a continuous improvement mindset (automation/simplification where possible).
