About the team
Our global team supports products education electronic health records that introduce students to digital charting and prepare them to document care in today’s modern clinical environment. The Data Quality team is a team of experts who are responsible for driving the quality & quality governance of Elsevier's data to the next level. We build and implement the strategy for quality management within the Research Data Platform and drive a culture of continuous improvement and customer centricity. We love to dig into the data and assess issues ourselves. This team brings a range of background experience profiles to the table: content expertise, value streaming, data analysis, supplier management, customer centricity or publishing data formats. We are instrumental in solving the cross-functional challenges that arise in the complex world of the data products that fuel Scopus, Scival, Embase etc. We are the gatekeepers who monitor overall outgoing quality, and bring the voice of our customers regarding quality back into the Research Data Platform.
About the role
You will drive the adoption of Data Quality strategy among your colleagues in the Domains of the Research Data Platform. This strategy drives the understanding of quality from the perspective of internal and external consumers of our data, and builds up best practices for managing the quality of Data Products. Next to the strategic work, you'll lead or participate in projects that directly or indirectly improve the quality of Elsevier's data. Projects can include doing analytics or working with analysts and tech, orchestrate large-scale correctios and prevent future data quality issues through the design of metrics/tests/policies and workflow adjustments. You are an active advocate of continuous improvement and you always think from the perspective of the customer.
Responsibilities
- Quality framework/strategy: You understands the Data Lifecycle. You translate strategy for data quality management into plans that will deliver measurable improvements to key axes of data quality. You drive for the implementation of this strategy through close collaboration with suppliers and Operations, Tech and Product representatives from Domains.
- Quality requirements You work with Domains and Product to definitively pin down the key quality requirements and concerns of different products, customer segments, and customer types, and works these into the overall quality management strategy
- Quality improvements You coordinate across Domains and other functional units within DataOps such as Supplier management, Data Analytics & Data Curation, and actively contributes to projects that improve the quality of RDP, by supporting quality-first design, ongoing metric refinements and root cause analysis of problems.
- Data Quality monitoring: You design PoC or MVPs and guide implementation of ongoing monitoring, tracking and dashboarding of data quality in cooperation of Tech or central teams
- Communication: you regularly update stakeholders with progress of implementations related to strategy or quality improvement initiatives making use of the appropriate data visualizations and dashboard.
- Stakeholder management & communication skills: Data Quality touches many areas of the business. Therefore you should be comfortable to interface with colleagues of a range of seniority levels and functional expertise and be a team player in execution. You possess clear communication and sharp presentation skills, share information and work effectively with team mates to achieve common objectives. You effectively operate in an Agile environment
Requirements
We are looking for someone who:
• Understands the concepts of Data Product governance and has proven experience with managing a set of KPIs in collaboration with Product Management and customer advocates
• Has a sound understanding of science publishing industry, production workflows, and product landscape
• Data analysis: Has demonstratable hands-on experience of deriving actionable insights using a mainstream analytics platform such as (preferred) DataBricks, RStudio, KNIME or (minimum requirement) Excel , and experience with common data formats including JSON-LD and XML
• Is able to tell a story through data using appropriate visualizations and commentary
• Experience with Agile Project Management / Agile development practice.
• Bachelor or master degree in e.g. Business analytics, Information science, (Management) Information systems, Information Science
• It is a plus if you: are a DAMA certified data management professional, have certifications in data platforms or ISO 8000 / Data Quality courses completed
• At least 6 years of work experience out of which minimum 3 in a data-intensive role
