Brief introduction:

  • This position is part of Colgate’s Global Packaging organization, and will be responsible for leading India packaging. 

  • This position provides stewardship to India Packaging strategies of Driving Growth, by developing and implementing innovative consumer preferred packaging. 

  • This position delivers Funding the Growth, by driving savings and standardization efforts in the region. 

  • This position leads and drives Packaging Sustainability agenda for India, by identifying initiatives and developing implementation plans to support company mandates and local regulatory-driven programs.

  • The role is cross-functional in nature, working closely with Marketing, CIC (Innovation), Supply Chain (Procurement, Operations, Logistics), Quality and GTC (R&D)  teams.  Partnerships with outside packaging vendors and industry are a critical element of job responsibilities.

  • This position is part of the APAC Packaging organization, it collaborates with talented engineers in each of the Colgate subsidiaries, Global Packaging Innovation, Global Category Packaging team.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead India Packaging organization for all the categories in CP India, including toothpaste, toothbrush and personal care;

  • Lead Packaging Innovation: Drive the development of new packaging solutions to elevate superior consumer experience, including  formats and materials, focusing on sustainability, functionality, and shelf-appeal to create a competitive advantage in the Indian market. Stay aware of supplier and competitor new developments. Monitor and evaluate best practices in the local and global market on packaging;

  • Drive Commercialization Excellence: Oversee the entire commercialization lifecycle, ensuring scale-up of packaging solutions from pilot phase to mass manufacturing, mitigating risks and ensuring speed-to-market.

  • Provide training and guidance of Packaging protocols (MTP, KRS) and procedures to the Packaging Organization in India, and constantly monitor to ensure they are followed properly.  

  • Work with Quality and cross-functions to deliver measurable Quality KPIs. Develop  packaging roadmaps to strengthen packaging validation and right first time.  Support local  teams with cross-functional analysis of quality packaging situations to identify root causes and drive resolution;

  • Fund the Growth through Value Engineering & Cost Optimization: Strategically manage packaging costs by identifying value engineering opportunities and optimizing material specifications without compromising on quality or brand integrity.

  • Sustainability & Compliance: Champion the organization’s sustainability agenda by implementing eco-friendly solutions (e.g., reduce, reuse, recycle) and ensuring full compliance with India’s Plastic Waste Management (PWM) rules and regulatory standards.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Marketing, Manufacturing/ Supply Chain, Procurement, and IGTC (R&D) teams to present, align packaging strategies with broader business goals and operational capabilities. 

  • Prepare and present status of priorities and objectives to Global and regional stakeholders;

  • Coordinate Packaging & GTC meetings to ensure project alignment and monitor project progress. Identify and elevate risks and roadblocks.

  • Define and provide stewardship in collaboration with procurement to the packaging materials strategy

  • Drive project management , governance and review of all key packaging innovation and commercialization projects to ensure delivery within agreed timelines, on time and in full. 

  • Develop, coach and grow the Packaging team to max out  their full potential and to support business growth agenda.



Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s/ Master’s in Packaging, Engineering or Material Science

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Packaging in Consumer Products or Pharma industries

  • Team Leadership experience

  • Ability to travel 5-20% (domestic and Global) based on project needs



Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong project management skills; .Experience coordinating packaging development projects with Formula Development, Marketing and the Supply Chain.

  • Technical depth on packaging innovation, development, validation and problem solving.
