Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
- As the Deputy Manager - Engine at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will spearhead crucial initiatives to enhance cost efficiency by meticulously managing man cost and driving productivity improvements on the assembly line. Your expertise will be essential in implementing robust cost reduction strategies focusing on minimising scrap, consumables, and labour costs without compromising quality.
- Your responsibilities include comprehensive departmental budget planning, ongoing monitoring, and ensuring cost targets are met regularly. Achieving a Service Parts Return (SPR) improvement exceeding 90% will also be a key deliverable, reflecting your commitment to excellence in quality and service.
- Leveraging your analytical skills, you will conduct thorough defect data analyses, instigate effective countermeasures, and monitor market complaint trends to proactively resolve issues. A strategic leader, you will guide the Assembly manufacturing team in achieving superior control over Production, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Safety, and Morale (PQCDSM) parameters, ensuring on-time product delivery aligned with planning forecasts.
- Cross-functional coordination is crucial; thus, you will collaborate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and vendors to identify and implement continuous improvements. You will be instrumental in managing the establishment of new products and their transition into mass production phases, fostering seamless integration and operational excellence.
- Maintaining a rigorous training schedule for both workers and staff will form part of your operational duties, focusing on skill development and adherence to best practices. Daily manpower management will require your adeptness at resolving conflicts promptly and cultivating a positive, motivated workforce.
- In your role, you will drive team inspiration and oversee performance reviews, ensuring that individual contributions align with organisational goals. Conducting detailed gap analyses on production, quality losses, and equipment breakdowns will enable you to implement corrective actions swiftly. Moreover, synchronization of parts across multiple models will be closely managed to optimise assembly line efficiency and inventory utilisation.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background with a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology degree, particularly specialising in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. This educational foundation equips you with the technical knowledge necessary to excel in engine manufacturing and related assembly processes.
Your qualifications should demonstrate a blend of theoretical understanding and practical application in engineering principles, which forms the basis for effective decision-making and leadership in manufacturing environments.
Additional certifications or training related to manufacturing process optimisation, quality control methodologies, or project management will be advantageous and reflect a commitment to ongoing professional development.
General Experience
Candidates should bring between 3 to 7 years of progressive experience in manufacturing, specifically within engine assembly or closely related sectors. This tenure ensures familiarity with production line dynamics, cost management strategies, and quality assurance protocols necessary to thrive in this role.
Experience in leading teams, managing complex projects, and executing cost control measures in a manufacturing setup will be critical in meeting the role's demands. Prior exposure to cross-departmental coordination and vendor management will bolster your ability to implement comprehensive process improvements.
Familiarity with industry-standard manufacturing metrics such as PQCDSM, SPR, and defect analysis will provide you with a practical edge to assess and enhance production efficiency effectively.

- Proven Leadership in Manufacturing Operations: Demonstrated ability to lead assembly teams and manage production lines with a focus on cost control and quality improvement.
- Strategic Cost Reduction Expertise: Experience in designing and implementing cost-saving initiatives across scrap reduction, consumable usage, and labour productivity.
- Data-Driven Problem Solving: Proficiency in analysing defects, market complaints, and production losses to develop effective countermeasures.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Skilled in collaborating with internal departments, external stakeholders, and suppliers to drive continuous operational improvements.
- New Product Introduction: Hands-on experience in the successful transition of new products from development to mass production within a manufacturing environment.
- Manpower and Training Management: Capability to design and deliver training programmes, resolve team conflicts, and maintain high team morale and performance.
- Gap and Synchronisation Analysis: Expertise in evaluating production gaps, quality issues, and equipment breakdowns, with a focus on synchronising parts across various models for efficiency.
- Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of manufacturing processes within the automotive or heavy machinery sectors preferred.
- Technological Proficiency: Familiarity with manufacturing software tools, quality control systems, and process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
