Job Title: AWP Operator

Experience: 0–5 years – Depends on Site requirement.

Licence: Valid LMV driving licence mandatory.

Role purpose

The AWP Operator is responsible for safe operation of aerial work platforms/mobile elevating work platforms for work at height at sites, plants, warehouses, and maintenance locations. The role includes pre-use inspection, hazard identification, PPE compliance, safe equipment movement, and reporting of defects or unsafe conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Operate AWP/MEWP equipment safely as per manufacturer instructions, site SOPs, and supervisor guidance.
• Conduct daily pre-start and pre-use inspection of the machine and report any defect, damage, or unsafe condition immediately.
• Check controls, guardrails, access gates, alarms, tyres, batteries/fuel, and emergency lowering systems before use.
• Inspect the work area for ground condition, overhead obstruction, wind, weather, and other operational hazards before lifting operations.
• Ensure machine load limits and platform occupancy limits are not exceeded.
• Use required PPE such as helmet, safety shoes, reflective jacket, and harness/lanyard where applicable.
• Coordinate with supervisors, helpers, riggers, and work teams for safe lifting and access operations.
• Maintain the machine in clean condition and support basic routine checks.
• Stop work in case of unsafe weather, malfunction, or hazardous site condition.
• Maintain basic checklists, usage logs, and related records as required.

Eligibility

• LMV & HMV License for 1 to 5 years on particular site or as per site requirement.
• 0–3 years of experience in operating AWP/MEWP/scissor lift/boom lift or similar equipment is preferred.
• Freshers may also be considered if they hold a valid LMV licence and have AWP familiarisation/training.
• IPAF or equivalent operator training/certification is preferred where applicable.
• Physically fit to work at height and at project sites.
• Basic understanding of site safety and equipment handling is preferred.

Skills required

• Safe machine handling and control awareness.
• Basic knowledge of work-at-height safety and hazard identification.
• Ability to follow operating instructions and warning labels.
• Team coordination and disciplined work behaviour.
• Willingness to work in shifts and at different project locations.
