Duty Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of building systems and equipment. This role ensures optimal performance of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems while maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for building occupants.

Key Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance

Monitor and operate building management systems (BMS) and control systems to ensure efficient facility operations. Conduct routine inspections of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and life safety systems. Perform preventive maintenance tasks according to established schedules and manufacturer recommendations. Respond promptly to equipment failures, alarms, and emergency situations to minimize downtime and disruption.

Troubleshooting & Repairs

Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently, escalating complex problems to specialized contractors when necessary. Perform minor repairs on building equipment and systems to maintain operational continuity. Coordinate with external vendors and contractors for major repairs and specialized maintenance work.

Compliance & Safety

Ensure all building systems comply with local codes, regulations, and safety standards. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and system readings. Conduct safety inspections and identify potential hazards, taking corrective action as needed. Participate in emergency response procedures and drills.

Tenant & Stakeholder Support

Respond to tenant work requests and complaints in a professional and timely manner. Communicate effectively with building occupants, property management, and contractors regarding maintenance activities and system status. Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineering staff when applicable.

Education & Experience

Technical diploma or certification in mechanical, electrical, or building engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 2-3 years of experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or a related field. Experience with commercial building systems and equipment preferred.

Technical Skills

Working knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical distribution, plumbing, and fire protection systems. Familiarity with building management systems and control platforms. Basic computer skills including email, work order management systems, and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, equipment manuals, and specifications.
