Job Description
A bike mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and maintains bicycles to ensure safety and peak performance. Daily duties include tuning gears, replacing worn-out components (like chains and brake pads), building custom bikes, and test-riding completed repairs. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Inspect bikes to identify mechanical, structural, or electronic issues.
- Maintenance & Repair: Adjust and repair brakes, derailleurs, suspensions, and wheels.
- Customer Service: Consult with clients, provide repair cost estimates, and suggest appropriate upgrades.
- Assembly & Customization: Build new bicycles from scratch or swap components to meet specific rider preferences.
- Inventory Management: Order replacement parts and track workshop supplies.
- Testing: Test-ride repaired bicycles to ensure safety and proper functionality.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Deep mechanical knowledge of various bicycle types (road, mountain, e-bike).
- Proficiency with specialized hand and power tools.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure client safety.
- Problem-solving abilities for adapting to evolving cycling technology.
