Job Description for –Supply Chain Management – MMH  

 

 

Metallurgical and Material Handling Strategic Business Group undertakes EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) Projects in the field of Minerals & Metals, Bulk Material Handling and  is a market leader in all the areas of operations. It has a well established structural steel fabrication Unit “L&T – ECC Workshops” at  Kancheepuram, near Chennai and Kansbahal near Rourkela (Orissa) to meet the customized needs of its customers.

 

Educational Qualification & Experience

  • B.Tech/BE Graduate full time from Reputed Engineering College
  • Masters degree/Graduated Diploma  in Materials Management (preferred)
  • Relevant work experience in EPC/ Manufacturing organizations
  • Should have proven record of   handling Project. Procurement in a large set up. 
  • Experience in Capital Purchase is a must. Must have experience of  working at Project sites in earlier part of his career

sites/supplier premises etc.

 

Domain Knowledge

                                        

Overview of EPC   Industry in the country either M&M     or BMH or any capital

Project  industry. Well networked with Manufacturers / Vendors / Suppliers and leading 

players  and Customers. Must have good commercial acumen & negotiation skills.

Well aware of Strengths & Weaknesses of Suppliers in the business

 

Deliverable/Responsibilities

 

  • To ensure effective sourcing of Materials/Equipment’s/Spares/Consumables /Commodities to meet specifications, material requirements and pricing from suppliers. 
  • Actively seek creative supply solutions to optimize cost and value equation.

Develop relationships in the market  and stay abreast of industry changes which 

may impact various businesses of MMH as it relates to pricing trends.

  • Monitor and report on cost trends for key items impacting business. 
  • Ensure all supplier contracts (domestic & international) are complete, properly executed, and have considered all cost variables, including the unbundling of freight. Ensure cost effective logistics by determining optimal delivery terms, rates, and freight class. 
  • Evaluate and apprise Management on suppliers based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, production, and distribution capabilities, transportation cost, and supplier's reputation and performance history. 
  • Enhance supplier development by communicating performance standards, developing joint improvement initiatives, and actively soliciting formal feedback. 
  • Negotiate resolution with suppliers relative to quality and service issues. Utilize strategic sourcing tools to sustain continuous cost reduction initiatives. 
  • Ensure supply contingency plans and strategy are up-to date and easily activated in the event primary suppliers are unable to perform as required. 
  • Effectively manage skip level communications and expectations; and to be assertive in driving the cross-functional team of his/her department and other stakeholders to meet and exceed organizational goals.
